Chris named fastest driller in Europe

If you want some drilling done fast, there is no-one better to ask than Chris Robinson.

Chris, 37, of Aspull, has beaten 16 other joiners from across Europe to become the fastest driller in the West (and the East).

He represented Great Britain in the Dewalt Euromillion Challenge, in Valencia, Spain.

He won the contest by drilling five screws into a piece of wood in the fastest time of all the competitors.

Chris had previously beaten joiners in the North West and the UK to take part in the international competition organised by power tools company Dewalt.

The event aims to provide a fun challenge for tradesmen and find the best joiner.

The contest is also used to promote Dewalt products.

Chris, who has his own joinery company, Fielding Joinery Ltd, scored the best time of 11.4 seconds to win the coveted title of number one driller in Europe.

He said: "I'm really happy and I enjoyed it. I was just quicker. That was all it was down to.

"The competition was knocked down from 16 to eight, then from eight to four, four to two and finally two to one.

He spoke of the pressure building up as the crowd watched and the chance of winning one million euros came ever closer.

Chris explained: "Steady nerves won it on the day."

Once Chris was crowned the winner, he played a game of chance to win one million euros, which, unfortunately, he lost.

But in a second game of chance, he won a Renault van and 10,000 worth of tools!

Chris added: "There were some good prizes but I really enjoyed the competition itself.

"It was five days all expenses paid in Valencia. But now I am back at work – back to the grindstone."

Joinery and construction work is in the blood, as Chris' grandfather, Jack Fishwick, owned Wigan building company JW Fishwick Builders Ltd.

And Chris is now passing on his joinery expertise to his step-son, Christopher, 17, who is working as his apprentice.

He also hopes his other two sons, Lewis, 13, and Adam, five, will follow in his footsteps and take up the family trade.
