Clothes chain in trouble

Shop staff in Wigan and Leigh were facing an uncertain future today after the high street clothes chain Ethel Austin went into administration.

The recession was today blamed for the business's downturn in fortunes.

And while its outlets – including Standishgate in Wigan and Union Street in Leigh – were trading as normal this morning, administrators said that there was no guarantee that a buyer would be found and that redundancies and closures may follow.

Meanwhile, however MCR, whose partners Geoff Bouchier, David Whitehouse and Philip Duffy have been appointed joint administrators, is trying to find a new owner for both Ethel Austin Limited and its sister chain Au Naturale Limited.
