Date set for Long trial
Sean Long
A DATE has been set for the trial of Wigan-based rugby league ace Sean Long.
Former St Helens and Great Britain scrum-half Long, 36, appeared before magistrates in St Helens charged with assaulting a woman.
Long, of Smithy Glen Drive, Billinge, Wigan, has already pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The allegations have been made by a former tenant of a property that Long owned and go back to last May, the court heard.
Long, wearing a dark grey suit and dark open-necked shirt, attended the hearing and spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address.
A three-day trial was set for June 12. Long was granted bail.
Long hung up his boots after an injury-hit couple of seasons with Hull following a glittering career with St Helens.
He began playing rugby union with National League North 2 side Preston Grasshoppers last season while also taking on the role of assistant coach at Salford City Reds.
