Death crash: guilty plea
A mother wept in court as a Wigan motorist admitted killing her daughter in a car smash.
Robert Johnston pleaded guilty to causing teenage passenger Phillipa Campbell's death in the collision which happened on August 28 last year.
The 21-year-old of Snowden Avenue, Worsley Mesnes, also pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court to driving while uninsured.
The court heard that two witnesses spoke about Johnston having consumed alcohol before the tragedy and one had warned him to be careful.
Steven Swift, defending, said that Johnston, who is facially scarred and walks with a stick, had not had a blood sample taken at hospital because of his serious injuries.
He spent many weeks in intensive care and still faces operations, including reconstruction of his shoulder and one to his ear.
Mr Swift said: "He has no recollection of events that night," adding that there was CCTV footage showing Johnston after the witnesses had seen him and he was not staggering.
Judge Mark Brown said: "There is evidence to clearly indicate that drink was a very relevant factor."
Phillipa, a 19-year-old shopworker, was fatally injured after the MG TF that Johnston was driving collided with a fence in Warrington Road, Newtown, in the early hours.
Judge Brown further remanded him on bail until April 23 to enable pre-sentence and medical reports to be prepared and asked for victim impact statements to be made.
