Delays warning

MOTORISTS are being warned of delays after a main road was closed because of icy conditions.

Water from an overflowing drain has frozen in Bickershaw Lane, between the Gibson Street and Keats Way junction.

As a result, a vehicle skidded on ice in Bickershaw Lane, between the Gibson Street junction and the Keats Way junction, at 6.45am this morning (Monday) and crashed into a hedge.

No-one was injured, but Wigan’s highways department closed the road off as it was deemed unsafe, causing cars to turn round and create queues in Hindley and Abram.

Engineers from United Utilities are now working on the problem.

The road will remain closed for the next few hours.
