Dog owners in clean up plea
Coun Yvonne Klieve urges dog owners to clean up after their pets
AN ANGRY Wigan councillor has led fresh calls for local dog owners to clear up after their pets.
Coun Yvonne Klieve, who represents Golborne and Lowton West, says councillors and the local authority have done all they can to tackle one of the most complained-about community issues and yet a minority of folk continue to flout the law.
Ward councillors have invested in bins and warning signage on lamp posts and even spray-painted on pavements in the last two years to try to improve footpaths.
Many walkways have bins as do parks have litter bins and even libraries give away free doggy bags. There is also the threat of fixed penalty notices. But Coun Klieve says some owners still haven’t got the message. She said: “It’s just not fair for our residents in particular children who have to dodge mess walking to school, it can be very dangerous to young children, which we need to protect.”

Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 02:32 AMThe councillors should be concentrating on the other problems, such as youths congregating at weekends and chucking their cans and bottles in the ginnels and roads. Another problem for Golborne, Yvonne, is the idiots that are doing over 40 miles an hour on the stretch from Golborne Asda up Edge Green Lane, its a wonder no one has been killed!

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 05:48 PMThe letter in this weeks Wigan Observer from a youngster age 9 from Swinley highlights this problem. It comes to something when children are writing to newspapers asking for local dogwalkers to clean up their doggy doo doos. We have to dodge the mess, she says and it almost makes us sick.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 03:15 AMJemmyH........Call me old fashioned...not everyone. feels the need or urge to travel. There is no disgrace, for young people wishing to stay within their Family circle, believe it, Jemmy H, there are many young folk, who believe in Family, and who do wish to stay local to care and provide for their Family. The streets of London are not paved with gold.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 08:40 PMPost 31. You're quite right of course, but it wouldn't do any harm to try to give Wigan people a bit of preference where job requirements have been met by all short-listed applicants, rather than bus people in en mass from elsewhere.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 08:17 PMComment 26 :- If employment available in the Wigan Area was given to Wigan Area people, would it be ok to remove Wigan Area people from employment in other areas, ie: St.Helens Warrington Bolton Liverpool Manchester? ...... The Wigan Area (local authority area?) would soon become an area of mass unemployment.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 05:59 PMPost 28. At what stage were you elected to ban humour, and to decide which posts are flippant or pathetic? Could you please enlighten us as to which posts fall into this category so the miscreant can stand in a corner wearing a pointy hat, and feel thoroughly chastised.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 10:59 AMHumour has its place, but flippancy in posting pathetic comments demonstrates mindlessness & idleness. ... as do the 'responsible' dog walkers who are careful to display an awareness of their responsibility whilst they are visible, only to leave their bagged packages on the pavement, in hedges or hanging from branches once out of sight. Shouldn't everybody just have respect for all, and above 'pride in where they live (& where their neighbours live)'.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 10:25 AMMaybe if they brought the dog licence back & set it at a realistic high price then the income to the council could go towards providing & maintaining purpose built bins for them & dog wardens to patrol problematic areas to police them. I am not an animal owner & don't see why my council tax contributions should go towards providing a service of supplying & emptying bins, the job in itself must be a horrible job to carry out but it could be given as a punishment to the scroats who are brought before magistrates for vandalising or breaking into other peoples property or any other crime

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 01:42 AMLitter and Dog muck .... Two local Councilors, Labour Coun Yvonne Klieve and Labour Coun Prescott....Try commenting on the Youth Unemployment in this area, the regular attacks on our older Wigan people by feral smackheads, stop wasting money on pavements, rid the Town of the drunks and junkies which are evident to all. Plus what employment is available in the Wigan Area, should be given to Wigan people, end of.

Monday, February 20, 2012 at 01:29 PMWell i understand that completely but like many things these days it is a small minority of dogs and dog owners that let us down.. I hate walking across playing fields and seeing piles of poop, but us sensible and thoughtful dog owners still get the blame. The article was about dog poo and somehow, in under 20 comments we are talking about dogs killing children? I just think it has been blown out of all proportion. Dog owners should clean up after there pets, simple as that.

Monday, February 20, 2012 at 01:04 PMPost 20. I've only your word on those points. However, one of the most popular retorts from dog owners is ........................................... "He's never done that before"
