A MAN assaulted his disabled mum in a drunken rage.

Jason McDonough, 35, of Bond Street, Leigh admitted beating his mum at her home when he appeared at Wigan Magistrates’ Court.

Katie McFarlane, prosecuting, told magistrates that on February 13, McDonough was staying with his mum, Mary, and had been drinking.

He demanded his tea, to which Mrs McDonough, who is disabled after suffering from a stroke, replied he was old enough to make his own. He then tried to bring in his new bike, which his mum objected to.

McDonough then kicked her twice in the left leg, which caused large gashes.

Ms McFarlane said: “Mrs McDonough said she was frightened he was going to hit her and she screamed. He lashed out and punched her with a clenched fist.

“When the police arrived, she was taken to hospital for her injuries. She had a bump to her head, bruised arms and two gashes to her legs.”

Martin Jones, defending, said McDonough was so intoxicated, he did not remember the incident, but accepted what he had done.

After magistrates decided against adjourning and were considering a custodial sentence, McDonough pleaded for more support for his alcohol issues. The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report. McDonough was remanded in custody until March 1.
