George's best foot forward

Free hot pot and patriotic pride helped people of Scholes mark St George's Day.

Members of One Voice Tenants and Residents Association held a special celebration in honour of England's patron saint at the Sunshine House youth centre, Scholes.

Flags and banners adorned the centre, while St George and the dragon he famously slayed popped in to greet patriotic revellers.

Barbara Nettleton, chair of One Voice, said: "A lot of people feel we can't celebrate St George's Day for one reason or another.

"We wanted to show we can, and should be proud of being English and our English culture."

Also joining patriotic celebrations were pupils of St George's Primary School in Derby Street, Atherton, who enjoyed a special St George themed menu by Metrofresh staff.
