Haigh Fest postponed

editorial image

WIGAN’S massive music event Haigh Hall Live and Haigh Festival has been postponed for a year.

The sad news was announced today by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust and event management firm Cuffe and Taylor.

The annual event was due to take place on the usual dates but clashed with the Stone Roses gig at Heaton Park, Manchester

The large scale of the Manchester concert and its proximity to Wigan meant it was not viable for organisers to compete and still go ahead with the festival.

Both companies frantically tried to rearrange the date but no alternative was found and so the decision to put the concerts back a year, was made.

Booked a week off work to take the family to Haigh Fest. This made me LOL! I got my tickets through the post for the 'has beens' last week, can't wait. I don't think Jedward or Peter Andre will be supporting the SR so why cancel Haigh?

Post 3. I'd agree with the has-been label. There are far too many rose tinted spectacles out there, and too many people are still impressed by a 'name'. Let's face it, people will buy tickets to flock to see a 'name' even if nearly all the original band members are dead, so demand for tickets is no endorsement of quality. Having said all that, most of what was on offer at Haigh Hall previously was utter bilge. Surely post 2 is a wind up.

I thought there were 52 weeks in a year?? Was it not possible to get another weekend? Obviously not, as these new festival organisers can earn more cash at other festival.......Wigan town has been shafted once again.

I am really happy about this as the last time there was a festival at Haigh they had to give away tickets to passers by. The idea is for the Council to save money not give it away.
