Kitten rescued from deep fat fryer

Firefighters rescued a kitten from the inside of a commercial deep fat fryer.

Peter Ohang, the owner of Chinese restaurant, Wok U Like, spotted the cat in his cooking equipment on Saturday afternoon.

He had heard cries coming from the kitchen and realised the animal was jammed in between two pieces of metal.

Mr Ohang then rang the RSPCA and Wigan fire and rescue to get assistance with the trapped cat.

Mr Ohang, 44, said: "The poor little thing was terrified. I am sure she must have dashed into my car and that's how she ended up in the restaurant.

"She might have been in there for at least a day or so.

"Fortunately we don't use that piece of cooking equipment anymore; we have other deep fat fryers in the kitchen.

"I decided to take her back to Hampstead Road, near where I live, so hopefully she could make her way back to her owners."

The black and white kitten was wearing a red collar but it did not have an address attached to it.

Crew manager Dave Scully said: "Two of the crew dismantled the cooker and hauled the panels off so they could get inside and pull the little mite out.

"She was fine, just a little bit shaken. It's a good job the fryer was no longer in use."
