Knight eyes JJB return

Tom Knight has talked to JJB Sports about making a comeback to his former role as chief executive at the Wigan-based retailer.

Knight held the post under David Whelan's ownership but stepped down in favour of Chris Ronnie in June, 2007.

JJB sources have confirmed that Knight is one several candidates for the post, which has been vacant since Ronnie was dismissed for gross misconduct in March.

Executive chairman Sir David Jones, 66, who suffers from Parkinson's Disease, will step down to a non-executive role when a new chief executive is appointed.

But some observers believe the group will choose somebody from a non-sportswear retail background.
