Ladies in sleeping bag aid

A joint collaboration between several charities raised enough money to buy 22 sleeping bags for the borough's homeless.

Members of Soroptimist International Wigan and the Rotary Club of Wigan held various fund-raising activities which, together with personal donations from two members of the Soroptimists, Carol Britner and Indu Gupta, totalled 400.

The other sleeping bags have been dispersed on a needs basis to individuals throughout the borough.

The groups intend to widen the project in the coming year and invite other organisations to donate a sum which, collectively, will help to supply sleeping bags on a regular basis.

The latest to receive seven of the sleeping bags was Trish Green of the Bricklayers Project in Wigan town centre.
