Latics and Warriors stars spread hospital cheer
Christmas came early for children in Wigan's hospitals and schools when sporting stars from the world of soccer and rugby dropped in for a visit.
Latics players and members of the Warriors squad visited patients in Wigan Infirmary and a number of Wigan Athletic players called into Hope and Landgate schools, armed with presents galore.
The Latics players put together a kitty to buy the gifts, with the club matching the amount raised – leading to a stack of presents that were dished out one by one as Christmas carols were played.
"I have got kids myself and it's important that we do our bit, and put a smile on a few little faces," Jason Koumas said.
"It really puts everything into perspective, and it's the least we can do really. If we can make a few kids' Christmas by handing over some presents then it's important we do that."
The entire Latics first-team pool were split up into groups, enabling them to visit Landgate School and the children's wards at Wigan Infirmary bearing gifts as well as Hope School.
"Visits like this are a very good thing."It's so important to give something back," said Scharner.
