Louisa loses her locks for charity appeal
A brave Wigan woman has had her long hair cut to raise cash for Naomi's Fight.
Louisa Singleton's beautiful, long, auburn hair is now just a distant memory after she opted for a drastic chop to help two-year-old cystic fibrosis sufferer, Naomi Farrington.
Naomi's Fight has touched the hearts of Wigan Evening Post readers borough-wide, who have so far helped raise more than 7,000 for the campaign to buy equipment to prolong her life.
Her family, including her mum and dad, Sarah Prowse and Christopher Farrington, of Ince, is hoping to raise 20,000 to buy a compression vest from America, which will eradicate the need for gruelling manual physiotherapy sessions and cut down hospital visits, vastly improving Naomi's quality of life.
After hearing about the little girl's plight, Louisa, 28, of Marsh Green, decided it was time to act.
She said: "I was really nervous about it because my hair was so long. I have never had short hair and now it's a number four all over! I have kept my ponytail to remind me.
"I made up my mind to do something like this after speaking to Lee Holding, Naomi's grandad. We work together at Wincanton."
Louisa is now hoping to raise more than 400 for her efforts and is quickly getting used to her new crop.
She said: "People keep saying that it suits me and if I'm honest it
looks a lot better than I thought it would. I was planning to grow it long again but I'm not so sure now!"
Louisa isn't the only one to have boosted the campaign as other fund-raisers are also in the pipeline.
A charity evening for Naomi's Fight has been organised tonight at Higher Ince Labour Club.
Marion Baldwin, secretary of the club, says she has managed to secure singing trio, Three's Company, to provide the entertainment.
She said: "There will be bingo and raffles with some great prizes. Everyone is welcome to come along."
Tickets for the event can be bought through the club for 2 each, and it will also be possible to pay on the door.
Other activities include a performance by the George Formby Appreciation Society in Market Square, Wigan town centre, on June 21, plus a charity night at Jay Dee's in Poolstock, on July 12, where JJ Shannon, a Robbie Williams impersonator has offered to sing for free.
Naomi's mum, Sarah, said: "We have been overwhelmed with everyone's support and help and would like to say a big thank you."
If anyone would like to make a donation, cheques must be payable to "Naomi's Fight."
