Man arrested after crash

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a car collided with a lamppost and ended up in a hedge.

Two appliances from Wigan fire station were called to a the scene on Wigan Lower Road, Shevington at just after 8pm on Thursday evening.

Police were also called out to reports that a red Renault Clio had skidded off the road near to a sharp s-bend and was on its side.

The male driver and female passenger were trapped in the vehicle and required assistance from the fire service to get free.

Both were conscious and breathing but had suffered slight head and lower limb injuries and were taken by ambulance to Wigan Royal Infirmary.

The man was arrested under section five of the road traffic act.
