Man fights for life after bike smash
Road accident involving a motorcyclist and a car on Hamilton Street/Leigh Road Howe Bridge, Atherton
THIS was the scene after two people were injured, one critically in a head-on crash between a car and a motorbike.
At around 12.15pm on Monday, a red Honda motorbike was travelling along Leigh Road, Atherton, away from the town centre when it was in collision with a silver Citroen C3 travelling in the opposite direction. This was at the junction with Hamilton Road.
The rider and the passenger of the motorbike were thrown from the bike causing a serious head injury to the latter.
He is currently in hospital in a critical condition. The driver was also injured and suffered a broken shoulder.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.
Sgt Danny Byrne, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is an extremely serious collision which has left one man fighting for his life in hospital.
“We are urging anyone who has any information about the collision or saw either vehicle travelling on Leigh Road beforehand to get in contact with police.”
