Man found hanged

editorial image

WORKERS reporting for an early morning shift found the body of a man hanged under a bridge in Wigan.

Shocked scrap metal workers at Bithell Recycling and Waste Management found the body suspended under a road bridge over the Leeds and Liverpool Canal as they reported for work.

It was believed to have been there for several hours when emergency services were called to the scene.

It is known that a letter was found in the man’s pocket and that is now in the possession of Greater Manchester Police.

Officers yesterday confirmed that a man’s body “in his 20s” had been found at Westwood Lane, Wigan, but declined to give further identification details.

They did, however, confirm that they were not investigating any suspicious circumstances.

The Wigan coroner is expected to open an inquest today (Monday) before adjourning.

My condolences to his loved ones. I feel that I have little to live for now yet I wouldn't waste my life like that. It is frustrating when people give up their lives like this when they feel that they have no other options as they are not wiping out just the past but their future too. Still, whatever his reasons, he is at peace now.

Unfortunately I was one of a few people to stumble across this scene on Friday morning as I work nearby. I think this is the third suicide on that bridge in 2 years. I wish I could get what I saw out my head but hope the chaps family are coping best they can.

People say this is the easy way out but the older I get the more I think differently. He must have been in a very dark place and no-one noticed. Condolences to all that are left behind.

People always commit suicide regardless of job prospects or employment. Lets not jump to conclusions. Thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.

A sad time for all concerned. Who knows what this young person has been going through, I feel that he isn't going to be the last with the way this country has gone, no jobs for the young generation, no prospects, no doubt he has parents still living, why couldn't he have spoken to someone (samaritans, close friend etc.) nothing in this world is that bad that is worth taking your own life for,
