Man loses fight for life

A WIGAN man has lost his fight for life after a serious house fire.
Michael Dean, 49, died yesterday evening, after being rescued from his heavily-smoked logged home, in Sefton Road, Bryn, which he shared with his wife Tina, and 10-year-old step son.
Neighbours raced into action after seeing smoke coming from the house on Sunday afternoon but were forced back by its density.
Four firefighters using breathing apparatus entered the detached house and found Mr Dean unconscious upstairs.
They carried him out and attempted to resuscitate him on the lawn outside.
Mr Dean’s wife, who had been out of the house with her son at the time, arrived to find her husband lying on the ground, surrounded by firefighters and paramedics.
He was taken to Wigan Infirmary, suffering from severe smoke inhalation but died a day later.
The Fire Investigation Team are now examining the cause of the fire, which started in the downstairs living room, near the sofa.
