Model teenager died in her sleep
Charlotte Mayes
A MODEL teenager who hoped to become a teacher had her life tragically cut short by an undiagnosed heart condition, an inquest heard.
Charlotte Mayes was just 19 years old when she was found dead at her home in Hindley last September, days after beginning studying at Hope University in Liverpool.
Bolton Coroner’s Court heard how Charlotte’s brother Ian had returned to the house in Blackberry Drive in the early hours of the morning on September 29 and found his sister awake in the living room but seeming fine.
However, when he woke up that afternoon he discovered her lying on the sofa and saw she had stopped breathing.
Paramedics were called but could do nothing for her, while medical investigations subsequently discovered she had enlarged muscle cells in her heart, a condition which can often cause sudden and unexpected death with no obvious symptoms.
The court heard it was likely Charlotte had died in her sleep and would have suffered very little.
