More trauma as 12 years of racist abuse continues

A WIGAN man who has been subjected to 12 years of racist abuse suffered fresh terror when yobs attempted to break down his door down and attack him.
Shah Khan, who is of Asian origin, told how he was left panic-stricken when three hooded men with masks burst open the front door of his bungalow in Bryn and attempted to force their way inside.
Luckily the 66-year-old had the chain on the lock, but feared for his life as they hurled threats at him.
“I saw three lads outside my house, dressed in black, with their hoods up and masks on,” said Mr Khan. “They came down my drive and kicked my front door and opened it, but the chain was on.
“The three of them called me racist names and they broke the glass pane.
“I got my mobile phone out, but I was shaking so much I could not unlock it, so I pretended to call the police anyway and then they ran off.
“If the chain had not been on the door, something serious could have happened.”
Mr Khan, whose father hailed from Pakistan, was born in South Shields but was brought up in a children’s home.
He moved to Platt Bridge 30 years ago and worked at Rathbone bakery before retiring. He has been living in Bryn for the last 12 years.
He said: “I had one or two incidents in Platt Bridge, but nothing like now. I think I get more abuse because I confront people.
“I am sick over all this and I feel shamed.
“I don’t want to be at home as if people see me, I get abused.”
Police have confirmed they are investigating and are treating the January 26 incident as racially aggravated.
Insp Anne Scott said: “This man has been the victim of a number of racially aggravated incidents for some time. On every occasion he contacted the police, we have carried out thorough investigations, as we are doing for this latest offence.
“We have met with the Crown Prosecution Service to review the evidence to see whether there was any action that could be taken, and on one occasion a restraining order was put in place.”
