Musical aid for Naomi's fund

Little Naomi Farrington still needs you! The two-year-old tot from Ince, who has Cystic Fibrosis, still needs to raise just under £10,000.

The money is for a compression vest from America, which will cut down the number of hospital visits and physiotherapy sessions.

Musicians from the George Formby Society braved the rain to entertain crowds in Wigan town centre, raising around 180.

A fund-raising team raised 330 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust by bag

packing at Tesco in Hindley.

The collection was such a success that the store, in Cross Street, which had never allowed bag packing for a charity before, has decided to hold regular collections.

And a 22-year-old man from Springfield had a hair-raising experience when he shaved off his long locks.

Lee Hogan, a HGV mechanic, who had hair down to the middle of his back, had it shaved last Saturday, raising around 250.

He said: "It was for a good cause for Naomi. I have grown my hair for three years – everyone knows me for my long hair, so I thought I would shave it off. I am slowly getting used to it."

And two more brave men are preparing to de-fuzz.

Andrew Kendrick, 28, from Shevington, and Stephen Southern, 47, of Beech Hill, will have their backs and chests waxed at Bronze on Blonde, Springfield Road, Wigan on Thursday, July 3.

Andrew said: "It's all for a good cause. It's only a bit of pain. I'm looking forward to it – it's going to be a laugh.

Stephen added: "It's no pain really. I have had a back operation myself so I know the pain that kid is going through."

And generous Evening Post reader Frank McConnell, of Beech Hill, donated 50 towards Naomi's cause.

Naomi's aunt, Tracy Morris, is still selling tickets for Naomi's Charity Night at Jay Dees, Poolstock lane, Wigan, on July 12.

Reserved tickets cost 7 or non reserved cost 5.

The entertainment, which includes JJ Shannon, Garry Hampson as George Formby and Before Autumn Falls, kicks off at 7pm.

For tickets call Tracy on 07828126940.

If anyone would like to make a donation, cheques must be made payable to "Naomi's Fight." Send them to Natalie Walker, Wigan Evening Post, Martland Mill, Martland Mill Lane, Wigan, WN5 0LX.

Raffle tickets for a two-week stay in Florida are on sale now for 1. They can be bought from DJ Booze and Food, 110 Woodhouse Lane, or by calling 07845 010661 or e-mailing dannymorris01@btinternet.com
