Nightclub stamper avoids jail
A YOUNG mum was caught on camera repeatedly stamping on another woman outside a nightclub.
The graphic footage outside Pulp in Leigh town centre was shown at Liverpool Crown Court after Jenna Croysdale pleaded guilty to affray.
A judge heard that Croysdale’s victim had ended up on the ground after fighting with another woman but one of them was never identified and the other did not wish to make a formal complaint.
Judge Brian Lewis told 23-year-old Croysdale that her good character and guilty plea had “just about saved you from an immediate jail sentence”.
He sentenced her to 50 weeks’ imprisonment suspended for two years and placed her under supervision for 12 months with attendance at the Women’s Project. He also ordered her to carry out 180 hours’ unpaid work.
He warned Croysdale, who wiped away tears during the hearing, that if she got into further trouble “no weeping in the dock will save you”. She assured him: “It will not happen again.”
The judge said: “People in our communities are sick and tired of coming out of licensed premises after being out and about in our town centres and being confronted with this sort of ludicrous, brainless violence and it really had nothing to do with you.
“Whatever might have happened inside the club and whoever might have pulled your hair nothing can possibly excuse what happened outside.”
Harry Pepper, prosecuting, had told the court that the incident happened in the early hours of August 6 last year after two women began fighting outside the club.
Croysdale, of Kearsley Street, Leigh, emerged from the club and stamped on one of the women and then twice came back and stamped on her again. After being arrested and interviewed she was crying and apologetic.
Paul Treble, defending, said Croysdale, who only has one previous conviction for theft, is “thoroughly ashamed”.
At the time she was on anti-depressants, powerful painkillers for a hip problem and had gone out with friends and drunk too much. Someone had tried to pull her hair out and she had been left with a bald patch.
She is not a violent person and the incident had shocked her. She has a 12-month-old child and has not gone out drinking since, said Mr Treble.
