AN elderly woman was taken to hospital after being hit by a car.

Shortly after 11am yesterday, police were called to Preston Road, Standish, following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and blue Renault Megane.

A 79-year-old woman was taken to hospital for treatment to her injuries, which were not believed to be life threatening.

The road was closed for a short time while emergency crews dealt with the incident.

It was reopened a short time after.
