Paedophile banned from cinemas

A paedophile has been banned for life from entering cinemas, fast food restaurants, swimming pools and amusement arcades.

A judge imposed the order on 58-year-old Robert Thompson from Wigan, who had admitted making sexual advances towards three young boys in a McDonald's restaurant.

Judge Gerald Clifton sent him to jail indefinitely after ruling that he posed a significant risk of serious harm particularly to young boys. He imposed an indeterminate sentence for public protection and ruled that he must serve two years before he could apply for parole.

He also made a Sexual Offences Prevention Order to keep him away from children under 16 and the terms include banning him from places including cinemas.

Judge Clifton said that Thompson had targeted youngsters in a fast food restaurant and had admitted hanging around outside school premises.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that Thompson had chronic paedophiliac urges and became disinhibited through drink.

He has a previous conviction for indecent exposure involving three school girls.

Harry Pepper, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court that on December 11 three boys, aged 10 and 12 were in McDonald's in Standishgate, Wigan.

They were approached by Thompson who asked them to go with him to the toilet for sexual activity. They

refused and he became abusive and threatened to rape them. They were frightened and told staff who alerted the police.

He was caught after police watched CCTV footage and when arrested admitted what he had done.

Thompson, of Dorning Street, Wigan, pleaded guilty to three offences of incitement to engage in sexual activity.

His barrister, Zia Chaudhry, said had a personality disorder and realised he had a serious problem.

He was chronically lonely and abused alcohol but was amenable to treatment, he said.
