Park for dogs opens

Wigan's first dog park has been unveiled.

Members of the group Friends Around Bryn (FAB) revamped a tatty area into a segregated park just for dogs and their owners to enjoy after being awarded 5,000 from the Ashton and Bryn Township Engineering fund.

The new development is part of Grange Road park in Bryn.

Independent Councillor Gary Wilkes, who is also a member of Friends Around Bryn, said: "This area was created to address the issue of dog fouling. Many people seem to be exercising their dogs where children play football and are not clearing up the dog mess.

"This new area means the children can play football on the park and not get covered in dog mess and dog walkers can have their own area.

"The used to be a rundown part of the park where lots of substance misuse was going on, but we think we have improved it 100 per cent."
