Pensioner dies in road smash

A pensioner has died after his mobility scooter was hit by a car in Wigan.

Peter Carrol, 72, of Lancaster Road, Wigan, was taken to Wigan Infirmary with a head injury and multiple fractures to his right leg after his vehicle was in collision with a silver Ford Focus about 11am on Saturday on Scot Lane, Pemberton.

It is understood that Mr Carrol was crossing the road on his scooter at the time of the crash.

He was taken to hospital but died as a result of his injuries.

Police are now trying to trace any of the victim's friends or relatives and are asking them to call police on 0161 856 7201.
