Pensioner attacked in own home

editorial image

A PENSIONER was attacked in his own home as he tried to stop a thief.

The 66-year-old man was returning home when he saw a man coming out of his house through the kitchen door.

The man confronted the thief and he was punched in the stomach allowing the intruder to flee.

When the man went inside he discovered a number of items, including his TV, had been stolen.

The victim was not seriously injured in the incident which happened at his home on Victoria Street, Newtown shortly before 10pm on Sunday, February 2.

Police believe that the intruder may have been on a return leg to the property having stolen other items beforehand and are appealing for information.

It was unclear which direction the thief ran off in.

The offender, who had broken in after smashing a downstairs window, is described as 5ft 10in tall, in his 20s, of slim build and wearing a grey hooded top that had a grey strip across the back, near to his shoulder blades. DC John O’Donnell, of the Volume Crime Unit, said: “The victim was making his way home when he was confronted and assaulted by the intruder.

“We know the TV was stolen but the man did not have it at the time so it is unclear whether he had an accomplice or was making a return visit to the address.

“Either way, I am certain someone will have seen something and I would urge them to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5308, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Free the police and courts from the politically correct straitjacket which is stopping them from doing their jobs properly……….............. End the liberal fixation with the “rights” of criminals and replace it with concern for the rights of victims – and the right of innocent people not to become victims……

I am not a wishy washy liberal, I think the punishment should fit the crime. However I am sick and tired of the neo Victorian attitude of many posters on this site. ..............These same people sat back and never objected as the Christian heritage of our country was eroded. .....Flogging and hatred they espouse is not part of it, neither is the evilness of the crimes above..........If the only answer you can offer is a knee jerk reaction, do you honestly believe the situation will improve?.............The decline started in the sixties, prosperity came and I like many more people felt the benefit, we could buy our own homes a car, a holiday abroad. At the same time the fabric of our society was being eaten away, and we sat back. Now we pay the price, I only hope there is not another knee jerk reaction and we pander to the likes of many of the posters on this site. If you want the answer, read your Bible or be brave and go to a Church from the traditional Roman Catholic.. High Anglican to the happy clappy Evangelicals. .................Or just sit back and watch the soaps on the TV and wait for the rise of Islam and get the justice you want.....Finally on a very personal note, there is a poster on this site, who had a bad time with the Roman Catholic church. Mp it has changed give it a trey again, if only out of curiosity. I am not a Roman Catholic, when I attend mass I am happy to respect them and have a blessing. I am equally happy to share the peace in the Anglican Church or the supreme power of the spirit in a Quaker meting meeting. in fact anywhere I can find God. ...........I have gone on and preached to you posters, but we must find an answer to the moral vacuum that afflicts our country. God Bless

Taxpayer, No 3: the ‘PUNISHMENT’ you describe is reserved only for the LEGITIMATE DISABLED, the sick and vulnerable “evict them from their homes, take away any valuable possessions, put them out on the streets, cut ALL their benefits, make them grovel until they can prove they are ready to live like normal human beings” although you left out – and if they can’t ‘pretend’ to be not disabled, just go away and die on top of being left penniless, btw they also are NOT entitled to a solicitor ! But instead, If you are a criminal or dishonest FATCAT public official – it’s, hey have a free car and free accommodation with lots of perks, additionally golden handouts and pensions for the fatcats, legal representation – no probs ! Our public sector and justice system stinks of corruption all the 'hard' work of MPs !

A police officer once told me that if they arrived at the scene of a burglary and the perpetrator was deceased and the home owner said it was self defence then it would get sorted. the moral is don't just injure them, YOU will probably be prosecuted and they would sue you, ( If any of you contributors disagree GO TELL SOMEONE WHO CARES )

what really bugs me about these scroats for better words !! they think they have the right to break into someone's property and steal what they want !! they haven't put the hours of time and sweat in to earn the goods stolen !! and when caught they get a brief free of charge saying what a troubled life they have and by not punishing them they can turn their sad little life around !! and when punished the courts try there best not to jail them !! suspended sentence community service if they could be bothered turning up !! and a fine if the pay it !! out our money they never paid into !! stick them in pink boilers suits with a hi viz design in chain gangs picking rubbish up of the sides of the roads where they live, show them up for what useless trash they are. to the liberal softys in your ivory towers you must have no crime and live a charmed life.

Let the punishment fit the crime, enough of a slap on the wrists & told to not do it again. It's about time the do gooders were told "if you don't like it then move to another country". Lets get tough on scum. How many innocent people have to get hurt before someone in authority wakes up to what is happening. I've no doubt if this person is caught his defending solicitor will inform the magistrates of "how he is trying to change his ways & has suffered a troubled upbringing". Bang them up with no luxuries, evict them from their homes, take away any valuable possessions, put them out on the streets, cut all their benefits, make them grovel until they can prove they are ready to live like normal human beings
