Police not notified of new home

A CONVICTED sex offender was remanded in custody - partly for his own safety - after he failed to notify police of his new address.

Ashley Shaw, 25, admitted failing to comply with notification requirements following his release from a period of custody earlier this month.

Wigan Magistrates’ Court heard how the defendant had been made subject to a 10-year sex offender notification order by Liverpool Crown Court in 2007.

Mike Ardern, prosecuting, told how, as part of the order, Shaw must tell the police every time he moves house.

But he failed to do so within three days of being released from custody earlier this month.

Andrea Woods, defending, said her client, of Ludlow Drive, Leigh, simply forgot to notify the authorities and that Shaw’s new address was already known by the police.

His case was adjourned for a week for reports.
