Police in witness appeal
A PENSIONER has died in hospital after being hit by a car 12 days ago.
James Greenhalgh was near to the junction of Poolstock and Holborn Avenue, at about 8.50am on Friday, February 3, when he was struck by a black Vauxhall Zafira, which was being driven by a woman from Wigan.
The 71-year-old suffered several broken ribs in the collision and was taken to Wigan Infirmary.
His condition deteriorated and he passed away last Wednesday.
Mr Greenhalgh’s family have today released a tribute to him.
They said: “James was better known as Jimmy to his wife, family and friends. He attended school in Wigan and grew up there before working as a miner for 31 years.
“On leaving mining he became a self employed business man and continued to work hard. When he retired he continued to work hard in a full time role as a much loved husband, father and grandfather.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the Serious Collision Reconstruction Unit on 0161 856 4742.
