Popular teacher fights for her life

A POPULAR Wigan teacher is said to be in a critical condition in hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage while on a trip to London.

Zoe Halliwell, 48, is in Charing Cross Hospital, London, after she fell ill while visiting the city with colleagues from Hope School in Winstanley over the weekend.

Although she is in a critical condition and still hasn’t come round, Zoe is said to be comfortable and has undergone a series of tests.

Friends and family, including Hope School’s headteacher Peter Dahlstrom, travelled to London earlier this week to be by her side and offer their support.

Zoe, a huge Wigan Athletic fan, is extremely popular with colleagues, friends and the children she teaches.

She is also a scout leader and is well-known in scouting circles.

At Christmas, she enjoyed a few days of fame when she was pictured on television at the DW Stadium during the game against Chelsea wearing a turkey hat.

She was picked out by the cameras during the game and ended up being invited down to the club to meet manager Roberto Martinez.

The festive hat is just one of many owned by Zoe, who lives in Beech Hill.

She is somewhat of a hat collector – particularly festive ones, and said she had “one hat for every day of December”.

The bubbly teacher, who is due to celebrate her 49th birthday next Monday, invited the Wigan Evening Post to her school where she proudly showed off the wide array of hats she has in her collection.

Zoe was enjoying a weekend away with her friends sightseeing and visiting the theatre when she fell ill on Sunday.
