Raising cash for growing tache!

They may look a little daft but these moustaches are for a purpose, not style.

Apparently inspired by TV comedians The Chuckle Brothers, this group of colleagues, who work for Stephensons solicitors in Wigan, have put their razors to one side for a month in aid of the Movember campaign.

Their aim is not only to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Charity but to get people talking about men's health issues.

Three weeks into their challenge the results are mixed, but their facial hair seems to be having the desired effect.

Managing partner, and proud owner of a handlebar moustache, David Baybut said: "I think prostate cancer and other men's health issues lack a little publicity.

"Whether that is because men are too macho or too stubborn to talk about them I don't know, but I do think we are too ready to suffer in silence.

"Since growing my 'mo' I have been getting some funny looks.

"The good thing is that it is a conversation starter and just by having a chat about men's health issues then you are doing some good."

Further inspired by family members and friends who have had the disease, David and colleagues Paul Rogers, Alistair Gregory, Jonathan Chadwick and David Buck decided to get growing.

They began at the start of November (although David is sure at least one unnamed member of the group gave himself an advantage by starting early) and have been admiring each other's progress since.

Although there have been a few awkward moments – mainly when people have been too polite to comment on the sudden appearance of hair on their top lips – all are agreed that it has been a fun way to promote a good cause.

David said: "Prostate cancer is something that affects lots of men, if you look at the statistics it is much more than you would imagine, but you can get treatment.

"There is a large number of men, especially over 50, who might be having problems but they aren't aware of what might be causing them. Something like this is a fun way of promoting a very serious issue."

The first Movember was in Australia and is in its third year in the UK.

Last year more than 16,000 people took part and raised 2.4 million for charity in a single month. To support the Stephensons group go to http://uk.movember.com/mospace/320684/
