Singers compete for O2 spot

SINGER, songwriter and guitarist Livvy Mia already had an army of fans on YouTube before wowing the Teen Star judges.

It was her rendition of the song Youth by English three-piece band Daughter though that was enough to take her past the other hopefuls at the Manchester auditions.

Having already attracted hundreds of YouTube views of her acoustic performances, the Deanery High School pupil Livvy says she is looking forward to the rest of the Teen Star competition.

Livvy, 15, said: “It was quite nerve-racking as we were auditioned in groups of about five, with one or two going through. I didn’t expect to win, and when I did I couldn’t get over it.

“I’m really looking forward to the next round, I’ve only ever played small gigs before so performing at the RCNM will be a very different experience.

“At the regional final you get to sing a full song, so I’m currently thinking about doing a song by The Kooks which always goes down well when I play it, or Troublemaker by Olly Murs.

“To win and get through to the national final would mean the world to me, and it would build my confidence a lot more.”

Despite her youth Livvy, from Atherton, is already a familiar face on the Wigan music scene, performing both as a solo artist and as the frontwoman for pop-punk act Liquid Paradox.

She said: “The band’s songs are more energetic and louder, because normally I play soft songs, but it’s nice to explore a diverse range of styles.

“We’re a group of friends from school and we were just all interested in music and being able to play.

“We’ve been going for about a year but recently we’ve started to get quite serious as more gig offers have been coming

in.”

As well as the Teen Star competition and her commitments on the local live scene, Livvy says her ambition for the immediate future is to develop her own song-writing craft and start recording her material.
