Soap star Carly joins Race for Life

Soap star Carley Stenson will be putting her best foot forward this summer when she takes on the Race for Life to raise crucial cash for Cancer Research UK.

The Wigan-based Hollyoaks actress, 26, famous for her role as Steph Dean in the hit teen soap, is set to take on the annual fund-raising 5km race at Knowsley Hall on July 14.

Carley, from Billinge, said: "Taking part in the Race for Life is fantastic fun.

"I've taken part for some years now and particularly love the event in Knowsley as it's such a beautiful venue.

"I'd urge all women to sign up and take part to help Cancer Research UK help future generations affected by cancer."

The Race for Life 2009 is the UK's largest women-only fund-raising event series.

Women of all ages and fitness levels are invited to do something amazing by signing up for the Race for Life and joining forces to walk, jog or run the 5km course to raise money to help beat cancer.

Every day around 98 people are diagnosed with cancer in the north west.

But since the Race for Life series started 16 years ago, the overall cancer death rate has dropped by 15%, with thousands more people surviving the disease.

More than 1m was invested in cancer services in the region following last year's event.

Places are still available for the Race for Life at Knowsley and at St Helens – where the event is due to take place on the evening of June 17.

The event at Haigh Hall, Wigan, on June 14 is already full.
