Steve's world-famous Beckham pic

Steve Aspey was a man in the right place at the right time.

In fact, he took the very first snap of David Beckham and the then Victoria Adams' meeting.

Twleve years on, Steve, a painter and decorator from Hindley, is still cashing in on the photo of the couple who went on to create Brand Beckham.

He is still being paid for the rights to use the picture and with the Beckhams celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary, the father-of-two is set to earn even more money.

Steve, 54, captured the picture when he and his 14-year-old son were in the player's lounge at Old Trafford when Manchester United played Sheffield Wednesday in March 1997.

He said: "She (Victoria) made a bee line for him (David) and she had

her arm round him and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

"When she approached Beckham I took a picture.

"I never thought anything of it but in an interview 18 months later they said they met in the player's lounge and my mates reminded me of the picture.

"I rang a glossy magazine and they offered me money. It was a bit mind blowing when it first came out, dealing with all the newspapers.

"There's a big thing about it again now because of the anniversary. There's a big full page spread in a magazine with the picture."

Although reluctant to reveal how much he has earned through the picture, he admitted it was substantial.

Steve said he would like to meet the Beckhams and tell them it was him who took their first picture together. He said: "I used to work for a family which were associated with Man United and they said the Beckhams were not so pleased with me making money out of them.

"But I would love to meet them both and say it was me who took their first photo and see their reaction."

David and Victoria, also known as Posh Spice, got engaged in January 1998 and married at Ireland's Luttrellstown Castle on July 4, 1999.
