'Stressed' Pharmacy manager stole pills

A Wigan pharmacy manager has been struck off after admitting stealing tablets from the chemist store where she worked after suffering stress and alcohol problems.

At a hearing of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in London, Anne-Marie Dove, of Broomfield Terrace, Ince, admitted stealing drugs and not being fit to practise.

Ms Dove, who did not attend the hearing, worked at WA Salter Ltd, of Ince Green Lane, Wigan.

She admitted a string of allegations involving "dishonestly appropriating an unknown quantity of temazepam tablets" and "failing to behave with integrity and probity."

The disciplinary panel found that, as a result of her actions, she had "failed to act quickly to protect patients and the public from risk by reporting the matter to an appropriate person, authority or regulatory body when she had good reason to believe she may not be fit to practise."

The hearing was told that on or about February 20, 2007, she admitted

having problems with stress and alcohol consumption, for which she stated she was receiving help.

However, the disciplinary panel heard that on or about July 4, 2007, she admitted taking medicines from the dispensary because she still needed help for her condition, but she had not reported this to the society or any appropriate person earlier.

She was said to have supplied for herself an unknown quantity of temazepam 20mg tablets and diazepam 5mg tablets – both anti depressants – on July 4, 2007.

The panel was told that in an interview she admitted taking the drugs from the pharmacy for her own use without permission.
