Tributes paid to pensioner killed in scooter crash

Tributes have been paid to a Wigan pensioner who died after his mobility scooter was in collision with a car.

Peter Carroll, 72 of Lancaster Road, Marsh Green, died on Saturday after colliding with a silver Ford Focus which left him with a head injury and multiple fractures to his right leg.

Mr Carroll was on his mobility scooter crossing a busy part of Scot Lane between Marsh Green and the junction with Montrose Avenue in the incident at 11am on Saturday.

Paramedics fought to save him at the scene before he was taken to Wigan hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. Police were unable to trace any of Peter's relatives or friends at the time of the crash, but managed to track down his 68-year-old sister Ann Jackson on Sunday who formerly identified him.
