UFOs, aliens and ghosts in Wigan
UFOs feature regularly in Wigan's X-Files
FLYING jellyfish, orange flares, poltergeists and demons are just some of the bizarre emergency call-outs Wiganers have made to police.
Dozens of members of the public believe they have had a brush with the supernatural and beings from other worlds over the last three years.
The Wigan Observer can reveal the wacky calls received by Greater Manchester Police in the borough after a Freedom of Information Act request unearthed some ghostly and otherwise inexplicable goings-on.
Since 2009, scores of calls were made to GMP in relation to UFOs, aliens, demons, ghosts and witches have been made to police by concerned members of the public.
One caller in Shevington contacted police in February 2009, to tell them that an object shaped like a jellyfish, that was about 10ft long with a light inside it was flying fast towards Standish.
Another caller contacted GMP in May 2010 to tell them that his son had been possessed by a demon.
However, the majority of calls to police in regards to the supernatural revolved around aliens and UFO sightings.
In November last year, a caller reported three white lights in the sky, with three white triangles bouncing around at great speed.
Another alarmed member of the public rang in February 2009, claiming that an orange flare 200ft long was flying up in the air from water near Pennington Flash in Leigh.
And ghosts and mischievous spirits were spotted by plenty of 999 callers too.
One person said a ghost was “chasing” them and another casually claimed to have seen a ghost “the other day,”.
And one said a poltergeist had “moved things around and deleted files from their laptop.”
Police declined to comment on whether or not they felt the calls were a waste of police time.
Other Wigan incidents recorded by GMP call handlers included:
December 2011 - caller and his family can see four dinner plate-type objects whizzing around the sky;
December 2010 - man states he can see poltergeists;
February 2009 - man called stating 2010 is the year aliens are meeting in Standish Lower Ground;
August 2009 - male states he can see demons outside his house in Orrell;
January 2010 - caller claims there are “loads of strange lights in the sky above Ince”;
November 2010 - caller claimed a red light was hovering the sky above Bryn and just disappeared.
