‘Untouchable’ rapist jailed

Rapist Keith France-Sargeant

Rapist Keith France-Sargeant

A VILE sex beast from Wigan who repeatedly raped a teenaged girl and got her pregnant has been jailed for 14 years.

A judge told Keith France-Sargeant that while he was imposing a substantial sentence on him his behaviour will affect his victim for her whole life. “It will always live with her.”

Judge Stephen Everett said that he had thought at the time of the offences that he was “untouchable” and had plied the girl with cannabis and alcohol before abusing her.

“You applied distorted and deviant logic to this little girl,” he said.

He had forcibly pinned the child down to rape her and had taken away her childhood.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that when he made the girl pregnant she was so distraught that she went into the woods intending to kill herself with her school tie.

The abuse began when she was seven years old and the rapes, which started when she was 12, took place on occasions until she was 16, said Harry Pepper, prosecuting.

France-Sargeant, of Linney Square, Scholes, had pleaded guilty to five specimen rape offences and four offences of indecent assault. He was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Geoffrey Lowe, defending, said that the defendant, who had a troubled childhood, expresses “his contrition for what he has done.”

France-Sargeant, who has left “a life tainted if not ruined by his activities, has been assessed by a psychiatrist as having poor cognitive skills.”

Mr Lowe added that he had pleaded guilty at an early stage. He said: “That is to his credit morally and legally.”

After the hearing Det Con Sarah Torrence, of the Public Protection Division, said: “The offences committed by France-Sargeant have had a profound and lasting effect on the victim.

“His crimes were abhorrent and I hope she finds some comfort knowing he will now spend a considerable amount of time in jail.

“I also want to praise her for finding the strength to come forward and report what happened.

“No doubt France-Sargeant thought he had got away with his heinous crimes but her bravery means a dangerous sex offender has been taken off the streets and justice served.”
