Warning after handbag snatch
Motorists are warned to be on alert after a thief took a woman's bag from her car as she queued.
Police are warning drivers to keep their valuables safe after the handbag theft on Warrington Road, Leigh.
A man approached her car and opened the passenger door before snatching the woman's bag from the footwell.
A brave passer-by challenged the thief forcing him to drop the bag before he escaped.
Police have now launched an investigation into the incident which happened at around 7.45am on Wednesday, November 18.
The victim, who did not wish to be named, said: "I went from having all my faith in society shattered and restored in the space of a few frightening minutes. I would like to thank the driver who helped me in my time of need."
Greater Manchester Police have now issued advice to motorists to help prevent any similar incidents.
Inspector Ian Kennedy of the Leigh Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "We recommend that drivers keep any valuables such as handbags out of sight and keep their doors locked, both when driving and when the car is unattended.
"It's also a good idea to mark valuables with your postcode and house number or your vehicle registration number so it's easier for police to trace your belongings if they are stolen."
