West End star wins top award
The career of a Wigan-born West End star is set to scale new heights after she was shortlisted for one of the theatre world's most coveted prizes.
Kelly Price was pipped for a Laurence Olivier Award this week for her role in the Trevor Nunn production of A Little Night Music.
Any disappointment in losing out to newcomer Iwan Rheon in the Best Supporting Actor/Actress in a Musical category was amply tempered by the fact that the other contenders were legends Sheila Hancock and Maureen Lipman!
The nomination is another major feather in the cap of a 27-year-old Ashton-in-Makerfield girl who has graced many of London's stages with starring roles in shows such as Cabaret, Mamma Mia, Guys and Dolls (alongside Ewan McGregor) and Desperately Seeking Susan. She also appeared as Burt Reynolds's fitness instructor in the movie A Bunch of Amateurs.

Kelly's Olivier-nominated performance was as Baroness Charlotte in the Sondheim musical. It enjoyed a successful run at the Garrick Theatre in the West End.
It concluded last summer and since then Kelly has been appearing with Keira Knightley and Damian Lewis in a new take on Molliere's The Misanthrope. That ended only at the weekend - just in time for Kelly to don her posh frock and join actor-boyfriend Alec Newman for the Oliviers at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London's Park Lane.
She said: "It was a truly wonderful night. The nomination was unexpected. It was one of the most complex roles I had played, you had to tread a narrow line between comedy and tragedy.
"I didn't expect to win, but it did surprise me that neither did Maureen Lipman or Sheila Hancock."
Kelly is waiting for the phone to ring and is enjoying a rest.
