Wigan MP backs remploy
WIGAN’S MP has pledged to support Remploy during a visit to the Lamberhead plant.
Lisa Nandy toured the company to learn more about how Remploy works with local employers and the community and how she can support and promote this work within her constituency.
During her visit she presented two members of the team with long service awards. Receptionist Philomena Alder and leading hand Kathleen Gaskill have both accumulated an incredible 20 years service at the site.
Miss Nandy was welcomed to the site by factory manager Julie Holmes, Commercial and Business Manager Philip Hubbard plus Business Operations Manager David Liddle before being introduced to members of the team.
She then gave a presentation about how she would like to be involved with the site.
Remploy Wigan opened in 1947 employs 39 people with disabilities or health conditions on supported contracts.
It offers office fulfilment and is actively seeking new contracts which can be delivered through their capacity for digital printing, scanning and storage of documents and mailing campaigns.
At present, Remploy Wigan has contracts with local and national companies including MacFarlane’s who require assembly work and a local company Avmar who contract Remploy to sew survival suits for the marine industry.
Remploy Manager at Wigan Julie Holmes said: “We were delighted to welcome Lisa to our Wigan factory. We are very encouraged that she would like to support our ambition to win more contracts and look forward to engaging with her in the future.”
Wigan MP Lisa Nandy said: “I was delighted to visit and show my support and commitment to Remploy. The company helps thousands of people in challenging circumstances each year find work along with providing valuable services to the community.”
Remploy manager Juila Holmes said that the company had been delighted to welcome the Wigan MP and were “very encouraged” by her pledge to support their ambition win more contacts.
They looked forward to working with her in the future.
