Wiganers ready to party

Prince William and Kate Middleton

Prince William and Kate Middleton

GET set to party! We’ve already been given a bank holiday by the royal couple, and now Wigan Council is offering another gift to help Wiganers celebrate the most lavish wedding of the year.

Applications for street parties are already flooding in for the big event of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding – even though it is still months away.

And the council has announced that party organisers will be able to celebrate in style on April 29 without any additional cost, as officials have agreed to waive the usual traffic regulation order (TRO) fees, for one day only.

Normally, a TRO is required for all such events, but to boost the party atmosphere across the borough, the order will not be required.

Head of highways Mark Tilley said: “Normally, closing a road incurs quite a cost for a temporary traffic regulation order.

“So we’re saying to people that as long as we know about your party plans by March 31, we can do a formal application for everyone at once. This means there will be no charge to residents and just one single cost for us to manage.”

The highways team manage the logistics of road closures for church parades, the Remembrance Sunday services, as well as many other events during the year.

Communities who choose to come together and party will need to provide cones or barriers to close the street, and will be responsible for all public liability associated with the event.

Each application will receive a useful guide to assist with the technicalities. If you are interested in holding a street party, contact the council’s Traffic Group, Environmental Services, New Market Street, Wigan or email traffic@wigan.gov.uk for an application form.

Application forms must be received before March 31.

Applications received after this date will not benefit from the general legal closure order and therefore will not be given approval.

So get your bunting ready and your paper plates handy, April 29 is set to be a joyous occasion in true Wigan style.

I agree, the philosophy used in comment 77 seems to be, "If you don't agree with my views, you must be a fascist". Very sad really when people can't express their points if view.

If i was you lawm mower i would give myself a good oiling before you start using the typical loony left tactic of labelling everyone who doesn't hold your views as a facist. If you had any understanding of the english language then you might have realised that i was bemoaning the fact that the main parties are driving ordinary people into the hands of the fringe parties by failing to act on their main concerns.Remember what happened to gordon brown once he let the voters know what he thought of an ordinary labour party worker ,i think he called her a bigoted woman,it seems to me you are cut from the same cloth ,or perhaps grass would be more fitting.Seeing as you are interested i started out many years ago voting labour and soon realised that instead of making the working mans life better all they wanted to do was keep us all locked into council estates and benefits culture,i then started voting liberal but soon realised they were a waste of space and in the last four elections i have voted for the conservatives, but unfortunately due to the system brought in by labour they couldn't get a clear majority.Perhaps they will next time.

The sad truth is that none of the mainstream political parties take a blind bit of notice of what the majority of people in this country think,so by ignoring our wishes they are driving people into the arms of fringe parties who do have policies with which most of us agree.By that i mean an immediate ban on immigration from anywhere in the world and a withdrawal from the EC as it is bleeding us dry,or at the very least we should have the referendum on europe that we were promised by both major parties.

I see the censor is active once again. Even to the extent of removing the permission to comment on some articles.
