'Wild runts' are evicted

Two families who harboured Wigan's notorious "wild runts" have been thrown out of their homes.

A court heard that residents on the Beech Hill estate had suffered a "living hell" because of the persistent anti-social behaviour of Sandra Browitt, Philip King and their relatives.

And now Browitt, of Gidlow Lane, and King, of Tulip Drive, have been evicted following a three-day court case brought by Wigan and Leigh Housing.

Sitting at Liverpool County Court, His Honour Judge Casement heard evidence from a number of former residents from the estate who claimed their lives had been made a misery by youths who lived with the pair.

These four teenagers were among nine who hit the headlines in 2008 for receiving Asbos all on the same estate.

The court also heard evidence from Wigan and Leigh Housing officers and police about what was described as a "sustained period of criminal damage, threatening and intimidating behaviour and racial and homophobic abuse".

Wigan Council's Cabinet Champion link to Wigan and Leigh Housing, Coun Fred Walker, said: "These cases are the culmination of a heck of a lot of hard work by both housing staff and the police. It is a shining example of how we work together to tackle anti-social behaviour in our borough.
