Woman’s lucky escape
A WOMAN suffered smoke inhalation and a home was severely smoke damaged after a house fire in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Crews from Leigh and Atherton fire stations were called to the semi-detached house on Fell Street, Leigh, at 1.49am and found the ground floor of the property well alight.
Four firefighters in breathing apparatus used two hose reels to tackle blaze and a high pressure fan to clear the property of smoke.
The fire, which began in the living room, badly damaged the ground floor of the property and caused smoke damage throughout the home.
A neighbouring resident was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation at the scene.
After firefighters extinguished the blaze they leafleted the whole street offering residents home safety checks.
A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service fire investigation team are working at the property to find out the cause of the fire.
