Ban for driver who flipped car

Karole Jastrzebski, of Bridge Street, Golborne, admitted one charge of drink driving and one of driving without insurance at Wigan Magistrates Court yesterday, Wednesday.

The court heard how he was arrested after he lost control of his friend’s Vauxhall Vectra, hitting the lamppost and causing the car to end up on it’s roof in a farmer’s field off Warrington Road in Golborne on April 13.

Ann Deakin, prosecuting, said: “A passerby witnessed the crash and went to help. He saw the driver was ok but smelt alcohol so called the emergency services.”

Jastrzebski was breathalysed at the scene and found to be over the limit. He was arrested and breathalysed again at the station which showed he had 106mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Jastrzebski, who was unrepresented, told the court: “I had an argument with my wife and I wanted to leave the house. My car wasn’t there so I took my friends. I know it was completely ridiculous and stupid what I did.”

The 29-year-old was given a 12 month community order with a requirement of 80 hours unpaid work.

He was disqualified for 28 months and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £85.
