Biker killed in collision named

A motorcyclist who died following a collision has been named.

Richard Johnson, 34, was killed after his bike collided with a tree on Wigan Road in Golborne at around 2.45am on Monday August 8.

The Wiganer, who was known as Ricky, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

His family were too distressed to speak to the media but backed a fresh police appeal for witnesses to come forward following the tragic incident.

The crash happened on Wigan Road a few hundreds yards from the junction with Ashton Road.

PC Paul Hailwood of Greater Manchester Police’s serious collision investigation unit said: “The family and friends of Richard have been left devastated by this tragic loss.

“My thoughts are with them and we have specially trained officers supporting them at this difficult time.

“His family are desperate for answers and I am urging anyone who saw Richard riding his blue motorcycle with learner plates between 2am and 2.30am on Monday 8 August in the Lowton or Golborne area of Wigan to get in touch and help us with our investigation.”
