Bobby arrested over alleged fancy dress charity bust-up

A WIGAN bobby has been arrested over claims he attacked two women in a kebab shop in a fight over a fancy dress outfit.

The officer was off duty at the time and on a night out with colleagues when it is alleged that he angrily retaliated when one of the girls poked fun at a friend’s costume. It is claimed he punched one of the women in the face, knocking her to the ground.

His colleagues stepped in to stop the brawl but the officer, who has not been named, was later held on suspicion of assault and suspended.

The group, from Greater Manchester Police, had been at a fund-raiser for a fellow policeman who is suffering from motor neurone disease when they visited the Pizza King takeaway in Wallgate at 1.40am on Thursday. A worker at Pizza King has since confirmed there had been a scuffle.

He said: “There were about 20 people in here, it was very busy.

“There was some trouble, some fighting. The police came the other day and took the CCTV away.”

And a police spokesman has now confirmed the officer has been suspended pending an inquiry.

He added: “Greater Manchester police are currently investigating a complaint that a serving officer assaulted a woman at a takeaway in Wigan.

“He was off-duty at the time.”
