THIS was the scene of chaos after a careless driver ploughed through the front window of a shopping precinct chemist’s.
Firefighters were called to Woodnook Road, Appley Bridge, following reports of a collision involving a car at around 9.50pm on Wednesday.
They found a burgundy Vauxhall Corsa had gone right through the facade of Appley Bridge Pharmacy and ended up embedded in the storage area at the rear.
Remarkably no-one was injured in the incident, which damaged several window panes and the interior of the pharmacy but left the fabric of the building intact.
A crew from Wigan fire station spent 40 minutes making the scene safe and isolating the power in the premises.
A special incident unit was also sent to the scene but was not needed as the building was in no danger of collapse and the driver was not trapped.
Watch manager Martyn Smith said: “There was a PVC front to the shop which absorbed all the energy from the collision and none of it got into the brickwork, though obviously the shop is still badly damaged. There was nobody in the shop but there were a lot of people around as it was still light.”
