Cows saved by fire crews after blaze ravages farm buildings

Firefighters saved the lives of 200 cattle after a blaze swept through a barn.

Crews from Wigan, Skelmersdale, Ormskirk and Tarleton tackled the fire at agricultural buildings on Bannister Lane, Bispham Green, near Parbold, last Friday evening.

They used a hose reel, a jet and two ladders to extinguish the flames and were at the scene for two and a half hours.

The fire teams’ actions helped save a large herd of cows which were accommodated in a barn at the time. The cause of is under investigation.

The fire came in the same weekend that tragedy struck at a farm in Land Gate Lane, Bryn. Three lambs died after one upended a heat lamp causing a blaze in the shed where they were being housed. The farmer led 20 more lambs to safety.
