'˜Dirty-handed' robber only needed £20

A man threatened an employee at a takeaway with a knife - before only asking for £20 and then apologising.

The offender walked into a takeaway on Gidlow Lane, Wigan, placed a knife on the counter and demanded money from the employee at around 10.50pm on Saturday, July 9.

When the employee opened the till the man said he only needed £20.

The employee gave him a £20 note and then the man apologised and left the takeaway, saying he was desperate for money.

Police have today, Thursday, issued a description of a man they want to speak to in connection with the robbery.

The man is described as white, of a slim build and 5ft 6ins tall. He is in his late 40s and was wearing a grey bob-woollen hat, a dark coloured coat and had dirty hands.

Detective Constable Chris Waddicar of GMP’s Wigan borough, said: “The robbery has left employees at the takeaway shaken and frightened.

“The man has left these people in fear of their safety, and all for the sake of £20. I’m appealing to anyone who knows a man fitting the description to get in touch with us.”
